The Water Mill

The river winds its way endlessly on through time

A solitary workhorse amid leafy waters

The ancient wheel turns lifting, grinding, creaking

A million gallons flowing through its innards

Gushing, bubbling, cascading downwards

Carving smooth mosaics out of rugged rocks

Silken slate molding moss-edged riverbanks

Perpetuating life through time

Carving life-lines into teeming river beds

Fern clipped banks wait in misted hush

Wild garlic scented air, stilled by time

Shimmering against the pink-grey plumage

Of a lazy Wood Pigeon quivering

As he surveys the wooded banks amid leafy grandeur

The river winds its way endlessly on through time
