The Orange Grove
Kitty peddled as hard as she could feeling a rush of excitement as she veered off the wide chalky path which ran alongside the Rio Segura, taking the narrow offshoot leading down to the orange groves, eventually coming to a shaky halt and straddling the bicycle to admire the breathtaking view. A backdrop of mountains gave way to acres of arable land, fields planted with artichokes, others with broad beans and others she didn’t recognise. In between were olive trees and in the forefront and surrounding her, orange groves. Rows and rows of evenly planted trees laden with fruit.
Life's a Bitch and Then You Die...
As I get older, I think about the unthinkable more and more. What are the options? I don’t want to be buried so that just leaves one option really, to be burnt to a cinder or cinders, to be precise. Except this Cinders won’t be going anywhere, let alone to the ball.
Post-Surgery Here's What I Learned About the Difference Between Men and Women
Pre-op, I would whizz around our house cleaning, collecting washing as I went, dusting, and attending to a myriad of jobs that constantly needed doing in a busy household. Snowflakes drifted down from the leaden sky as Holly drove through the commuter traffic, an eerie light playing tricks on her as she watched, mesmerised by the flakes fluttering gently down and settling on the road ahead of her. She felt like she was in a snow-globe.
The Red Velvet Dress
Doreen folded the exquisite dress neatly and gently placed it back into the tissue paper wrapping before carefully laying it into the beautiful box where she kept it. She had only worn it once for her daughter’s graduation all those years ago. Where had the time gone? She hoped to wear it again, one day.
How I Coped with Menopause
Every woman handles menopause differently because it affects us all in different ways. Hot flushes and night sweats I only ever got hot flushes at night and although uncomfortable, I didn’t wake up in a pool of perspiration, as a good friend of mine had happen to her. She regularly had to change the bed sheets because of her night sweats. Mine felt like not getting enough air and having to flap the duvet up and down to create a light breeze (not ideal for the person trying to sleep next to you!)
