The Unapologetic Poet-

ODE TO STRETCH MARKS

By Kamusiime ComradePublished about a year ago 1 min read

I am all lit!

Beaming like the sun.

These stretch marks are all mine.

These stretch marks

simulate lightening.

They reflect like a spider web

sparkling with dew at dawn’s low light.

Like the yellow sand with

ripple marks in the Sahara,

This splash of magic accentuates

my glow.

They are Mother earth’s beautiful gift

imprinted on my lower abdomen.

Stretched over a canopy of melanin.

These fading rainbow hues

whistle the blues beneath my skin.

These stretch marks weave ripples

in story quilts.

They embody history and suitcases

of sacrifice.

They are life’s fine blue print of

motherhood, and badge of honor

for a tigress who has earned her

stripes.

I wear these wavy lines like I got

flowing water in my system.

I walk like i got electricity all over

my body.

Ain't no shame in showing off

nature's own bling!

These stretch marks are all mine.

These stretch marks don’t lie.
