The Special Girl

A stereotype

I bet you didn't expect me

I bet you didn't expect a deplorable mess.

I was supposed to be driven.

Exciting in a way that makes mens' hearts race.

I was supposed to be that girl.

The one who is pretty and doesn't know it.

The girl who is sweet to the core,

With a steel backbone.

I was every guy's fantasy.

That mythical girl.

But nobody ever considers what makes us this way, us unicorns.

Nobody ever wants the grime that covers the edges of our pretty silk skirts

They just come close

They steal our breath

They promise kisses and love and fidelity.

Without committing to the hardship and treachery

That comes with the turbulent emotions of unsteady youth.

Then when they finally do come face to face with the reality of it

They tuck tail and run

Like the cowards

Like the cads

Like the sane men they hopefully were
