The Song
Remember the night, / streetlights and dust.
THE SONG
Remember the night,
streetlights and dust.
Remember the stars,
moonbeams and just
the haunting voice
in the corner of yesterday.
Remember the shapes,
bequeathed to morning's fancy.
(I find myself looking.
I question and tease.)
Ancestry is revealed
through convoluting fumes—
primal definitions
gallant transitions
infinite renditions.
The song will play,
alive and brighter tonight
than it will ever be.
Seven shall be the children
who dream the dreams,
who dance the dances,
who teach the plays,
whose steps anticipate sinful nations.
Seven they shall be.
The song will play,
for this day,
come what may!
(I painted the lyrics
on slumbering clouds.)
Remember the night,
streetlights and dust.
Remember the me,
shadowless and just
wanting to be.
And remember the song
for all eternity.
