The soldier returns

From the battle that left him many burns

Wounded, scarred, bruised and broken

So many things left unspoken

The friends he has lost

The horrible physical cost

He’s been brought to the brink

Unable to clearly think

In the tavern he drowns his sorrow

And he’ll be back again on the morrow

Many label him a hero

But he feels like a zero

None of them would know

How far he had to go

The things he has done

Weigh on him a ton

He never really came back that day

His mind forever lost to the fray
