The Silencer
a poem for writers
She’s off on her journey to
Find the wizard of words.
The man who is rumored to
Be the God of all stories.
The pathway to him
Is really gloomy.
It requires a special map.
Be careful because a wrong
Turn can lead to a trap.
She reaches to the
End of the road.
She says a spell to
Summon the wizard.
He appears.
Then, grants her wish of becoming
An incredible, unforgettable writer.
Every word she wrote,
Would be recognized—
And every word she spoke
Would be perceived as
Great wisdom.
But, only if the wizard
Got something in return—
Her voice.
It would no longer
Be her own.
She would even have to
Adjust her tone.
The price for greatness
Is to be a clone.

Wow, you have been busy! I stepped away for a few days, and you added another volume to your amazing work! Nicely done! I am envious. I love this one. I once read that many elite athletes would be willing to take a drug that guaranteed them great success in their sport, even if it would cause them to die five years later (the Goldman dilemma). I think with any profession or pursuit, there is a price we might all pay for great success! Excellent poem! (FYI: You already have a tremendous gift with words)
This reminded me of The Little Mermaid, how Ursula gave Ariel a pair of legs in exchange for her voice. Awesome poem!
As with all your poems, excellent vocabulary through and through! Love the word choice and love the fantastical theme.
