The Riches of Poverty
“Blessed are the poor in spirit, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven.” – Matthew 5:3
Humility is the Mother of Virtue
and I am an orphan
sitting on the wayside
of the only path forward
*
I pray to be shown
the riches of poverty
while turning my head
from the need to know God
*
surely, goodness and mercy
will follow me but
I set the course
determine the timetable
*
the Kingdom of Heaven awaits
as I stumble and stagger in fits and starts
expecting to travel on a full belly
yet be counted among the blessed

"as I stumble and stagger in fits and starts expecting to travel on a full belly yet be counted among the blessed" I think this may describe a lot of us, unfortunately. Well done.
This felt very optimistic! Loved your poem and cover pic!
