don’t enlighten the hopeless romantic of their futile plight
searching endlessly for a pedestal lover
don’t let them know that everyone at their essence is the same
the core of me is the core of you
is the core of her and him and us
don’t let them find out that there’s enough beauty in us all
to fall in love with every person that you meet
anyone you take the time to get to know
love is not a mystical force
a bending of others at its unbreakable whim
love is a choice
love is a sacrifice
love is taking the time to perfectly filet flaws under a microscope
and appreciating them as they are
recognizing the necessity of them
love is not out of your control
love is you
and when you are able to see
that you are me
I will love you, too

Shooting Guernica
