This is a poetic piece inspired by Edgar Allan Poe's The Raven.
x
Suddenly I started waking, just as dawn was surely breaking
And the dream was slowly fading, as I sat up to start my day
Fickle feelings slowly waning, like an ornate window staining
Frame and filter light while shading out the many shades of grey
Name the type of night that hides inside the many shades of grey
This the darkness cannot say
x
Swiftly now the sun is rising, life on earth it's galvanizing
Sparking growth and catalyzing all the different spheres of play
On his mighty throne residing, why at night is he then hiding?
Mighty though he may be, this disappearing daily, his limits surely does betray
This disappearing daily his limits does betray
Darkness sees, but cannot say
x
Understanding's slowly dawning, the abyss doth open yawning
On the mirror's edge are spawning smoky shadows lead astray
Superficial knowledge scorning, I neglect to heed the warning
Suddenly the night has fallen in the middle of the day
Velvet darkness now is sprawlin' in the middle of the day
'Night lights the way' it seems to say
x
Now you realize you're still dreaming, thus the night is surely scheming
Suddenly appears a gleaming raven rapping, ghostly-seeming, tap-tap-tapping at your door
Slowly in it is now creeping, even now as you are sleeping
Banished feelings out are seeping, storm at bay it's barely keeping, craven raven at my door
Omen from a distant shore, shadow long across the floor
This subtle demon's settled scores now cast a shadow 'cross the floor
And it rains for evermore
x
This bird of night gives quite a fright to those who seek to rule with might
For once the light becomes insight, oh lord does it begin to pour
Perhaps you'll say this tale is trite, a better one, you'd surely write
For once you see that I am right, your ego goes to war
In order to deny its plight, the ego goes to war
And it rains forever more
x
Only
Once one's seen the scene transforming, does the phoenix seem heartwarming
In order to one's soul inform, one might just ask the holy storm - just what it's got in store
Through the rain one sees the rainbow, through the surface glimpse the core
So the sun is seen in shadow and the raven calls for silence
So the Rayven calls for silence
And it reigns forevermore
