A somber tale Of men chasing shadows, pansies, elves, and pixies Filling houses with trinkets, stuff, things, and thingies Amassing material tangibles and shiny objects A poor solution to the emptiness and ache within

Happiness, elusive happiness Are you goal, achievement, feeling, or attainment? Are you property, trophy, asset, or acquisition? Are you fleeting, lasting, short-lived, or enduring?

Are you truly found in this mortal realm? Or do we wait for realms above to enjoy your presence Millions search for you Nay, are still searching for you Are you truly to be found Lest we waste our strength on journeys unending

Or do we spend our days seeking higher callings Purpose, passion, value, and meaning The giving of joy and happiness to others Storing up eternal treasures for latter days of yore and yonder An eternal store beyond this realm's transient value

The pursuit of happiness Though a worthwhile venture May not be the true calling of many To avert heartbreak, despair, and disillusion Better to chase value, love, hope, and purpose Spreading goodness, kindness, laughter, and meaning
