The chilling air of western plains

Filled the cloudy sky,

And on the grasses mane

Vibrant crocuses did lye.

Clovers speckled with morning dew

Starred up to blooming trees.

The fluttering wind blew

Reflecting morning breeze.

And in the wind I spied

A heavy drop of rain.

The darkened heavens cried,

Bleak, heavy tears of pain.

Soon after it ceased,

Revealing soft tranquility.

The wind roared like a beast,

But now reduced to civility.

Now in this smooth hush

Nothing could be heard,

But the soft rustle of brush

And the chirping of a bird.
