Everything is good
There's no need to doubt
Wondering if you should
Let your feelings out
But it's too late for that
It's already done
Hold tight to this
Because he's the one
Let go of your fear
That if you hold too fast
That he'll want to let go
When you want it to last
Get rid of the doubt
At the back of your mind
Because a more perfect love
You will never find.
After a while, it seems he's always been by your side
You can't let go, even if you tried
He let you reach out and hold on tight
You've opened your heart like you never thought you might.
It was all worth it, now the doubt has gone
You are certain that he is the one.

About this Poem
The final six lines were added on 5th October 2017, while the rest of the poem was originally written, I believe, some time between 2014-2015.
During that time, I had written a few poems during this time. Many of them were quite soppy (see them and more — they are not all soppy, I promise — on my blog. After moving home in 2014 after leaving a long-term relationship, I had begun to enjoy being single, making the most of the time I had to myself and time with friends. I was happy, my children were happy, and I had no intention of committing to a new relationship. However, just two months after moving, I met a man. He was a friend of a friend. He was not looking for a relationship either. Nevertheless, he added me on Facebook and we decided to become friends.
While we messaged each other a few times, it was to be another couple of months before we actually met up again. That was entirely co-incidental as we both happened to be in the same place at the same time with different groups of friends.
I remember the night well. He'd had a few drinks already but then bought himself a whisky. He has subsequently told me that that was his Dutch courage because he wanted to ask me out! He was also a little excited/emotional because, as we sat talking, he received a message and informed me he was going to be a grandad. Then was told it was a false alarm. Although, a few weeks later, it was confirmed that his daughter was having a baby. Since then, another grandchild came along in 2016. Well, that is all another story. Suffice to say, he was so excited about becoming a grandad.
Later on in the night, I offered him a lift home. I should have mentioned he offered to buy me a drink and called me a lightweight when I said "diet Coke" but I told him I was driving.
Anyway, he was trying to say something while we were driving to his place. I think he was showing off but he said he wasn't. He was trying to tell me something in Italian. His reasoning was that it was something expressed better in that language, and there was no exact English phrase. I still believe he was just showing off that he could speak Italian.
It was another couple of weeks before we had our first official date and he actually asked me out properly.
We both had reservations about entering into a new relationship. While it is not my place to detail his reasons, mine were many. I wasn't used to a man such as him. Someone who would listen when I talked, who actually cared what I had to say. Someone who would not push me away for saying how I felt. Even though he told me he would rather I clearly stated whatever I felt, no matter what it was, I found it difficult because I had not been able to do that in my previous relationship.
I now know that I can talk to him about anything and everything. I still feel that I am very lucky to have a man who has turned out to be extremely supportive, loving, and caring, and who wants to put in the effort. I know he appreciates the same of me.
The poem, then, explains how I felt near to the beginning of the relationship. I knew he was the one but I was still worried I would push him away. The final verses of the poem are my conclusion and the subject of the poem is now my fiancé.
