the moon, the page, and the papercuts that just.won't.bleed
For the unhinged, ahem, I mean UNFILTERED challenge.
Today, I sit with my pen poised over The Page.
Well does it earn those capital letters today
My Nemesis.
Sometimes the page is friendly. A well-coming well. Yawning in a most inviting way.
Like when you open a brand new exercise book in September
Only, well, a bit slutty, to tell you the truth.
Come on, big brain. Fill me up. You know you want to. Rawrrr.
Come on, brain, indeed.
The important thing is not to think
To write down thoughts without thinking.
I think.
What an absolute crock.
What a fool’s game this is.
When my brain is as empty as the Page.
Just as nemesis-y
Ha. I should have done a story about my supervillain brain
Aha! So: we meet again! Indeed! And for the last time! We shall see about that!
Maybe I’ll call my brain a blackguard
But I’m not too sure how rude that is
And maybe it’s for pirates, not landlubbing supervillains
Anyway, I'm pretty sure supervillains are more intelligent than this.
I bet a supervillain never wrestled with an empty page.
Imagine the papercuts if he did.
So here I Sit, pen poised. Wrestling, and not in the fun way.
My skin seems to be unmarked. But l definitely feel the sting-sting-sting.
I don’t bleed, though.
Much as I want to.
The Page taunts me and I feel small.
Bleeding should be easy, right?
All l want to do is soak the page red.
The absolute relief when something finally (finally) comes out of me
Practically ecstatic
Don’t think about tomorrow.
When the sun comes up and I have to edit this horror show in the cold light of day
So many things seem like a good idea late at night.
The moon is a crafty co- conspirator.
Are any good decisions made after 1 AM?
Like nemesis-y.
Is that even a word?
The moon doesn’t care.
We giggle together, the moon and me. Or I. Eye.
We hush and sigh and smile and have just one more.
Of Something. Anything.
Whiskey. Kisses. Walnut Whips. Jelly babies dipped in custard. Game. Episode.
Maybe that’s why I’m not a morning person.
I like you, moon. You don’t judge me. Maybe my next story will be about you.
Oh! We meet again. Yes, and maybe, darling, for the last time.
Perhaps. But we will always have 1am.
Ha! See, Page? I have defeated you!
This time, maybe. But you haven’t seen the last of me! MUAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!
