The King of Hearts goes marching now

To find the Ace of Diamonds;

The Kind of Spades goes creeping along

In search of his lovely queen.

The Ace of Hearts is flitting about

Spying on the deck,

While the Queen of Spades is flirting

With the Ace of her same suit.

Poor Jack of Hearts looks sadly on,

And so does the Hearts' Queen,

As the object of their affections

Becomes lost in his own dreams.

The Ace of Clubs wanders about

As the Jack of Clubs laughs and plays;

The Queen of Diamonds softly sighs

As her King looks for a new Queen.

The monarchs of the Clubs, to each other

They no longer speak.

A sad sight, thinks the Jack of Diamonds

And then away he creeps.

Bitterly, the Jack of Spades looks on

At the cards' charade.
