The Labyrinth

Deep in an ancient labyrinth,

Lost in the annals of time,

A velvet whisper of hyacinth

Masks the scents of decay and old lime.

*

Ethereal siren songs mesmerize,

Calling to wandering souls

Promising sunshine and butterflies

At the depths of its bottomless holes.

*

The serenade sighs on, endlessly

In the cascade of sweet-scented air

And the captives come, following senselessly,

To the depths of regret and despair.

*

The enigma returns in my dreams each night

But it plagues me no more after this:

From the wall, I've unplugged the damned night light

With its vial, labeled, “Floral Kiss.”

When the new guy drops a great challenge, the old guy jumps in with both feet. Thanks, Randy!
