The Knotted Tree

A parable of dreams

Three on their way to Reverie did pass an old and knotted tree, its branches bare in twisted forms, the sole survivor of violent storms.

And as they came upon the tree, the roads were washed away, you see, no paths were visible for miles, the happy troupe withdrew their smiles.

The first that came upon the tree, had not believed in Reverie, he held no hope within his heart, quick to complain right from the start.

And when he saw the roads bereft, he said "goodbye" and then he left, He hurried home and didn't care if he would ever visit there.

The second that came upon the tree was foolish because he could not see a road or path at all in sight, yet still he wandered into night.

There was no doubt within his mind that Reverie is what he'd find; he wandered off and on his way, and has been lost ever since that day.

The third was thoughtful, humble, wise; he was taught to use more than eyes, to see beyond the problems found and safely pass o'er rocky ground.

And so he did not blindly hope, nor did he care to run and mope. He did not look for roads not there, nor did he give up in despair.

Instead he looked upon the tree, and it came upon him suddenly. He climbed upon its twisted form, shaped from many a violent storm.

And when he reached the very top, he knew that it was time to stop, for through the dark of night he'd see the distant lights of Reverie.

The path to Reverie has been a search for destinies of men. A journey for each one to take, to choose the path of dreams we make.

We all must search for Reverie, but, there are no promised roads, you see; For each of us we must rely upon ourselves for wings to fly.

So next time when it's not in sight, don't wander off, don't run in flight; no, use more than your eyes to see, and climb upon your knotted tree.

I loved this so much! It was so beautifully written!

  • This is absolutely delightful and I loved the message, "use more than your eyes to see"... I agree, it would make a great one for growing minds, children particularly. Beautifully penned! ❤️'d.
