I see that star at the top of that tree
And I know that it stands for hope
In the middle of a strange place
The long journey of faith
The into-the-unknown
The hope that brings both shepherds and kings
To this humble place
The spaces I was weren’t humble
They were filled with fancy lights and fancy people
Who had fancy ideas
That hurt people
Showed us how wrong we were and how we didn’t belong
But in all those fancy lights
There wasn’t a star like this
That led to a place so humble
But in this humble
I see love
I see compassion
I see hope
So may this star shine brightly
In our sky, on our trees, and in our hearts
And may we follow it to humility
So it can bring us hope.
