The Human Condition

Flawed

Of this I am certain

I am not perfect, not nearly so.

I suffer from the human condition.

Born as we all are without most of my imperfections,

I’ve since been influenced by the habits and prejudices of many others.

Luckily these have been limited in scope and nature.

Still I will sometimes shy away, turn from the truth of my flaws.

Rather than confront them head on.

Mostly though life will force a confrontation, a reckoning,

helping me to grow. Helping me to accept and work on these issues.

Among life’s tools, humility, forbearance and compassion stand out.

Forged from fire, we learn, sometimes with considerable pain and

admonishment. It is part of what makes us human,

as we strive to be that better version of ourselves,

that we know we can be.
