The Hardest Ones To Love

A Poem

Whom do you think

Is the hardest one to love?

Is it the person with the coldest heart?

Is it the one who is busy?

The one who is angry?

Or the one who is sad?

Whom do you think

Is the hardest one to love?

Is it the person who is far away?

Is it the one who cannot stay?

The one who never speaks?

The one you cannot hear?

Or one you cannot even touch?

You are wrong when you think

That love cannot reach the one who is cold

Or that it cannot find

The one who cannot laugh.

For love can touch even one who is far away

And listen to someone

Who does not know what to say.

Love can warm up even the coldest heart

If it is welcomed with open arms.

What love finds hard to do

Is to convince me and you,

When we keep on thinking,

And we keep on feeling,

That we don't deserve to be loved.

Must we refuse the love we're given,

Thinking that there can be no reason,

For us to be showered with affection?

Must we always ask

The reason why?

When love is there for the taking,

If we could only start believing,

But the hardest ones are those

Who think they don't deserve

To be loved.
