The Haiku Shack Podcast - ‘Monna Innominata’ by Christina Rossetti
Episode 18
The Haiku Shack is dedicated to inspiration and poetry. Host Cendrine Marrouat reads her own poems and those from her favorite poets.
In today's episode, I read Christina Rossetti's "Monna Innominata [I wish I could remember]".

Monna Innominata [I wish I could remember] - Christina Rossetti
I wish I could remember that first day,
First hour, first moment of your meeting me,
If bright or dim the season, it might be
Summer or Winter for aught I can say;
So unrecorded did it slip away,
So blind was I to see and to foresee,
So dull to mark the budding of my tree
That would not blossom for many a May.
If only I could recollect it, such
A day of days! I let it come and go
As traceless as a thaw of bygone snow;
It seemed to mean so little, meant so much;
If only now I could recall that touch,
First touch of hand in hand – Did one but know!

Very refreshing...Really enjoyed this!
I could listen to you reciting your poetry for hours!!! I have recently found that Spotify has a spoken word community…. Please publish to there ! It may be a slow start (perhaps not also!) but I strongly believe you will have a strong following in time. This was truly beautiful. And yes, part of that is because you have this stunning French accent - but that is not why it is interesting. Your tone, your timing, your poetry, your music choice… it’s art. And it’s beautiful art ❤️🕊️✨
Love this, Cendrine! You read poetry like a master, not stopping until each phrase has ended. So glad you took your time with it. I can't listen to poetry read aloud unless it is done like THIS. Fantastic, as always. You are such an inspiration, and I hope to see more podcasts in the future (I know I will!). 💖👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻
I was gonna make a “pardon my French” joke and use lots of profanity, but I’ll keep it classy. Just know I @&$!*%# love this. 😍
that was a beautiful reading, and i love the background piece, great choice. and a great poem as well.
