The Fantastical

A poem about fantastical texts

We read fantastical stories

To escape life's worries

We wander windily

Through timeless situations

Gliding gleefully in the words

Of an author's skillful touch

A splendid quest

A delightful rush

Of hopes and dreams

Of a character's happiness

A tale that takes us to a wonderous

Engrossing dialogue

Enlightening narration

A fantastic fantasy

Indulging our senses

Delivering us to a wonder

An imagining far far away

A world or a mystical land

Where we can escape

And have a hand

In our own hopes, dreams,

And desires, as we enthrall

Through the words of time.

I have been reading fantastical texts recently for a literature course I am studying and it's almost finished. My recent reading has consisted of The Dispossessed by Ursula K. Le Guin, The Tempest by William Shakespeare, and Stardust by Neil Gaiman and Charles Vess.

I especially enjoyed The Dispossessed and I recommend it to anyone who enjoys fantastical stories.
