The Familiar Stranger
Is Strangely Familiar
She stretched her skin achingly across my bones
Holding my emotions within her veins
Scratching at my scars that hide
My weight to her is heavy like stones
Being cleansed by poisonous rains
Spreading a fire deep inside
She carries me just beneath her surface
Doing her best not to let me slip
So maybe no one will see
How I make her feel worthless
How she has lost her grip
How she isn't really her but she is really me
We wear the same face
We don the same suit
But we no longer collide
She always feels out of place
And I always feel mute
But it somehow is what keeps us tied
It all seems like stories
The places she has been
And all she has left behind
Like maybe all the memories
Were just a dream
And not really mine
Her story is the same
As the one I tell
But how can that be?
If she is just the frame
She is just a shell
What does that make me?
