The Day Begins
Every morning is like Groundhog Day
Every morning as she wakes she tries to stay with her dreams,
Not ready to face the day,
As she surfaces into the world she’s hit with a feeling of dread,
Hating how she feels this way.
**
Her throat tightens, her chest sinks to her stomach,
She ponders the why,
Her heart speeds up as her eyes begin to open,
And she gazes upon heaven’s sky.
**
She lays and waits, silently lost within her fear,
Hoping for the best,
She’s patient as she quietly waits it out,
Wishing for more rest.
**
Acceptance seeps in and she pushes her dread away,
It’s time to be brave,
With a deep breath and her stubbornness intact,
She buries her despair in its grave.
**
Hollowed chest heaves with every breath she takes,
Determination sets in,
As the pain attempts to intensify into a gale force enemy,
She ignores it, desperate to win.
**
Fake it until she makes it, she plasters a smile upon her face,
Throws back the covers to greet the day,
Turns her mind to her plans, her responsibilities,
Until the distraction convinces her she’s okay.
**
A reprieve is mastered — well until the dawn of tomorrow morn,
But she’ll take what she can get,
No point stressing on what won’t change,
So, for today she’ll set and forget.

My first love is poetry — it’s like a desperate need to write, to free up space in my mind, to escape the constant noise in my head. Most of the time the poems write themselves — I’m just the conduit holding the metaphorical pen.

I think most of us would be able to relate to this. Loved your poem!
Don't do today what you can put off until tomorrow. (My wife's motto. Wouldn't have hurt me to lean a little in that direction.)
So damn relatable! So well written!
For all its quietness and soulfulness, this poem culls together the emotions to engage in and understand something as powerful as the idea of not remembering.
