The Darkness Toll

Nope. Not today.

I woke up and decided today that I do not want to pay the darkness toll.

I've shed my share of tears down a lonesome road.

And encountered too many obstructions simply to be told,

"Sorry about that, love.

That's just how it goes."

NO.

NO WAY, JOSÉ.

ABSOLUTELY NOT.

NOT TODAY.

I WILL NOT BE PAYING THE DARKNESS TOLL.

I put my coins away, the very same I have no further need to relay, and wave to the worker as I pass through his lane.

He seemed surprised that I flew by,

but only because he did not know.

Today, I won't be paying the darkness toll.

And who knows, maybe I won't pay tomorrow either.
