The Cloak of Victimhood
It is worn so well...
How did it start?
Does anyone know?
Why did we become victims
Everywhere we go?
Everything wrongs us
All we see in life
Is disharmony and strife.
Oh yes, it exists
But not everywhere
And not all the time.
Can we not see beauty anymore
Anywhere ever?
Can we not see good anymore
Anywhere ever?
Is the cup always half empty?
Is it never half full?
Are we truly hated
If the attention is not ours?
Or are we just acting a fool?
Do we ask for change
Only to be dissatisfied with change
Because the change favored another
More than it favored us?
Or is it simply because we are only
happy when we have control
So we must bend everything to our will
So we change things
Then change them again
And again simply because we must
To validate ourselves
And when we aren't getting what we want
Or another gets for themselves
What we felt should have ours
We cry loudly and point fingers
and ridicule and belittle the other
To make certain everyone understands
The wrong we have endured and by whose hands
Our cloak of victimhood flapping wildly
In the high winds of the ruckus we make.
But are we truly victims?
Or are we victimizers brutalizing others
To get what we want in the heat of the moment.
Are we sheep in wolf's clothing?
******
It's time to retire the cloaks of victimhood
Champions don't need them.

Thank you. Thank you. These are important poems and more people need to read it. Too many entitled people pointing fingers and screaming "check your privilege!" in this world like that is the only way to end a discussion.
Excellent words Pam, sorry it took me a month to see this.
