The Ceremony

Once, when Mother Combs visited the Weedan

She was privileged enough to witness a special ceremony

This ceremony was for the youth who had found their voice

She brought with her gifts of exotic fruits and nuts for the Weedan

That they feasted on during the ceremony that was planned

Mother Combs was given her usual place of honor among them

Before the ceremony began, several mature Weedans danced

Mother Combs was as old as time, and that was performed

With a high reverence for traditional reasons

With the end of the dance, the ceremony began

Out came the young Weedans in their gloriously spectacular robes

Robes that came down to their feet in a beautiful shade of blue

They stood before the most ancient-looking Weedan

That Mother Combs had seen and received intricate bands

The bands appeared to be made out of gold with jewels

Each youngling placed the bands on their arms

Once each of the youths had received their new bracelets

They all began to dance another dance that was as spectacular as the first

In and out, around and under, they danced, leaping through the air

And while they danced, they made the most striking sound

That Mother Combs had heard in her life

The sound was akin to what she thought angels would sound like

Mother Combs sat spellbound till the end of the dance

And found tears on her cheeks when it was over

For she knew she had just witnessed a special ceremony

And how honored she was that the Weedans allowed her to see
