The Celestial Tryst
For In Eclipse Challenge - Thanks to the Bard
eat the sun, eat her whole - the most powerful force in our universe, healer and destroyer - encircle her and blind her with your body - eager she was, as your paths crossed
cover her brightness, her warmth - the very essence of her impact on us lowly beings - covet her for but a fleeting moment - as she is bound to you
leave just a trace, a rough sketched outline of her inflamed majesty - shadow her in your might - little by little, devour her whole - as she longs for your shadow over her
in darkness we trust, the light will return - in the darkness we are assured of the light - in darkness you rule, your delight increasing her desire to break free from your hold
part ways, as equals, celestial bodies of grace and power, bid her adieu - as she gave you what you desire - petered out, she never was, though you tried
savour every second you spent together - like passing ships or star-crossed lovers divided and conquered by happenstance and reality - stare into her bright never-ending beauty - strength, radiance and resilience her gifts
ease yourself away after your tryst, as she, the burning eye of heaven, reclaims self

Thanks for reading!
Author's Notes: This is actually the sum of several different acrostics I wrote for this challenge, that I felt worked better together to create a longer piece! Sometimes...just sometimes I think "I can write poetry" this is one of those times. I also liked the imagery of the sun being devoured by the moon like pacman eating a ghost. I might even record this. MIGHT.
Anyway, here are some other pieces, that may or may not be as good or bad. It's all relative and subjective, right?

This would make the Bard blush with pride and deservedly so. This is an amazing poem and a stunning entry to the challenge. I loved every line but the finale really clinched it for me: ease yourself away after your tryst, as she, the burning eye of heaven, reclaims self I cannot express how much I wish I had dreamed the metaphor of the sun as the burning eye of heaven, Paul. I'm literally green with envy.
Excellent… really great having more detail/depth of their tale in the acrostic🤩
