A poem about loss and yearning

The Black Dog is a curious beast.

At times, you'll call his name,

And he will howl, and pine,

and hurl himself at you,

Longing for what is lost,

and yearning for what

cannot come to be.

At other times,

He dozes by the fire,

Placid and content,

But for the one, broken tear

in his endless eyes,

Weeping for the days in which he

pined, and hurled, and longed and yearned,

For things that he's forgotten how to want.
