His chair.

I visit the dirty old man at his gravesite

From time to time with beer and cigarettes.

It’s all so easy if you have the patience and

Enough meat on your bones to cut little

Slivers off here and there.

It’s all so easy if you can blow smoke in

The face of death and say “taste yourself”

It’s all so easy…

I play this game nightly with music as my

Only safe company.

When the invisible muse enters the room

In my cranium I tell her

“Pour a drink and take this seat. Relax,

I’m going to paint you”

I’ll pant her for as long as she’s willing

To sit.

When she leaves she leaves and like Henry,

I know she’s either going to return or have

Her fun with someone else for a while.

It’s all so easy if you can withstand

All the hangovers, the constant sight of

The walking dead, the shitty employment,

Times of distress and confusion, constantly

Losing, and the critics; but most of all yourself

Alone on a night or day like this.
