On the way
from the beach
to our mountain home,
it was about the time
the taste of salt water was
disappearing from my lips
that we would come
to the congregation
of bamboo stalls,
vending cooked food
and fruits, in great variety.
But we never stopped to shop
aimlessly or haphazardly.
We were on a mission of
delectable proportions; juicy
in its delicious decadence.
The perfect cap to a fun-drenched,
sun-drenched day;
on the way
back to our lives,
devouring
tangerine after sweet tangerine.
So many years, come and gone,
but still, I often dream
of golden days
when nothing mattered,
but the sea, and the sand
and those oh-so-blissful,
those oh-so-beautiful,
sweet, sweet tangerines.
