Taking Back Power

String of thoughts about humanity and our forgotten power

Sometimes it feels like we forget

We forget that we have power, that we have strength

-

We gravitate toward each other

That’s just humanity

We form herds, gatherings, villages and cities

And naturally we need leaders

That’s just reality

To decide on our behalf, and represent the collective

To lead us to salvation, and provide perspective

We trust that they follow through with promises and work for our interests

But sadly, that isn’t the truth often.

-

Democracy, dictatorship and whatever in between

Each comes with problems, none are pristine

With democracy we at least have power to speak up... supposedly

But we never take it up...wontedly

Politics feel a foreign existence that we shouldn’t mess with

Socially engineered fear of revolution

Instilled silently so those in power can maintain their invisible strings

Keeping masses thinking they’re gods beyond reach

-

Dictators are no different

Simply humans... no superpowers

So why do they remain in power?

If we want to, we can simply rise up and devour

Everything they have, and pull them down their ivory towers

Where they sit and rule over others

Uncaring and cruel

To their subjects so brutal

-

Humanity needs a reminder

That leaders are human too... no superpowers

If collectively we come through

What are they gonna do?

Absolutely nothing but run and hide

As the frail strings of power are cut from under them.

Author's note: The second poem i ever wrote was a conversation between a dictator/tyrant, and someone standing up against him (link below). I read that again recently and just had the same thoughts surface so i just wanted to write them down here.

The overall message reminds me of a book I read called history of the future. In it is a chapter about the death of government. From what I remember, It wasn’t specific about which country this would happen to first but the beginning stages can be seen in a lot of govts across the world. Very insightful poem!

Great post, Mo! It's really sad how we've allowed the elite to control us and divide us when we truly have the power ourselves. Keep up the good fight, brother.

  • I do wonder if the belief that we need leaders is an entirely false premise…. Teachers, yes. Leaders?? In their individual fields, perhaps… for a country? No….

Great title and love the insightful message . Sometimes dictatators stay in power because their society live in fear instead of courage .
