Take Out Your Veins

The Bass Hits

Steps creak beneath my feet

Musty moisture melts against my skin

The jagged scent

Causes my nostrils to furrow

Silver Toms bounce animatedly

As I twist my nose ring into place

Flick my hair from my eyes

As I prepare my heart to fly

The bass hit

A freight train against ribs

Strings attached to arteries

Shaking me to the core

Now deciding the rhythm of my heart

The drummer’s hand snaps fireworks

Glints glean from cymbals

Sparks fire from snares fly

Showering blips created by mortars

Screaming voice filled my mind

Pushed out my thoughts

Substituting them with his own

What he wanted

The bass hit

A freight train against ribs

Strings attached to arteries

Shaking me to the core

Now deciding the rhythm of my heart

When it all ended

I had to remind my heart to beat for itself

Abandoned by the now-lacking bass
