PB&J
Held together, just barely Each day comes, like the last Counting time by the minutes, As hours on the clock - passMy life made up of moments Some I begged, longer to stayLike my childhood memories Of PB&J~Simple slices of bread Peanut butter insideAnd some jelly mixed in Brought the flavor to lifeSticky, sweet goodness Spread magically with a knife My face - covered with remnants My tastebuds - favorite delight ~PB&J, I would answer When asked, what sounds good to you?I loved it the bestWhen daddy took, and cut it in twoA triangle shapeFit in my mouth like a gloveLightly toasted and served to me, with his love ~PB&J, who would have guessed Would bring such memories to lifeFor a few moments, I escapeThe days struggles and strife To the kitchen I wander For slices of wonder bread Smearing some peanut butter And strawberry spread ~PB&J - to this dayBrings back - pieces of homeA place, chaotic sometimes But where pure magic was grownGiggles in the back yardOr bounding happily, in fields of clover Sweet, precious memories I would love to do over
