PB&J

It’s My Jam

Held together, just barely

Each day comes, like the last

Counting time by the minutes,

As hours on the clock - pass

My life made up of moments

Some I begged, longer to stay

Like my childhood memories

Of PB&J

~

Simple slices of bread

Peanut butter inside

And some jelly mixed in

Brought the flavor to life

Sticky, sweet goodness

Spread magically with a knife

My face - covered with remnants

My tastebuds - favorite delight

~

PB&J, I would answer

When asked, what sounds good to you?

I loved it the best

When daddy took, and cut it in two

A triangle shape

Fit in my mouth like a glove

Lightly toasted and served to me, with his love

~

PB&J, who would have guessed

Would bring such memories to life

For a few moments, I escape

The days struggles and strife

To the kitchen I wander

For slices of wonder bread

Smearing some peanut butter

And strawberry spread

~

PB&J - to this day

Brings back - pieces of home

A place, chaotic sometimes

But where pure magic was grown

Giggles in the back yard

Or bounding happily, in fields of clover

Sweet, precious memories

I would love to do over

vintage
