There's a rich history of poetry serving as social commentary, intended to inspire calls to action.

Suicide Note
Trigger Warning: suicide, suicide ideation, and notes. Please do not continue if you are sensitive to these topics. I won't be describing anything graphic, but it is a heavy topic that is not for everyone whatever stage of your life and/or healing you are in. Take care of yourself first!

Mike Singleton - MikeydredPublished 8 months ago in PoetsHow I Wrote "Riverboat Resistance"
I first saw an X clip of the “Riverboat Brawl” on Thursday morning, August 10, in Turkey. I had stopped watching in the first two seconds because I thought I knew how it would end: another black man killed at the hands of a white mob. And although I hadn't seen much apparent violence like that in Turkey, just the usual symbols of force and power in the guns and assault rifles, I didn't want to see any more.

Vicious AvaricePublished 8 months ago in PoetsThe breakup
This is the breakup. And now the only make-up is verifiable watermarks smeared across my face. Laugh lines catch broken foundation as a symbolic end to our once jubilation filled interactions. Now we've entered actions of contempt. Sound bites missed, but I'm pissed so you should be too. 76 phone calls and 83 text messages won't explain all I have to say. The middle of I miss you replaced with four-letter oscillating words of misuse, because how can hate the thing you love so much. This is the breakup. Where fuck-ups become permanent blunders. The mind wonders if your good actions were pure, then your bad ones, they must be too. And now that we don't speak.
