DEATH CAME KNOCKING AT MIDNIGHT Death came knocking at midnight, With moonlight in his hair, He stood beneath my porchlight, As though he belonged there.
THE MAN WHO SOLD YESTERDAYS A man came knocking at my door, With yesterday’s for sale, He carried them inside a box, All tied with ribbons pale.
WHY ARE DREAMS SO FOOLISH? Why are dreams so foolish, Why do they bring you near? Why do they let me touch your face, When you are nowhere here?
THE WOMAN INSIDE THE RED I seen a woman inside the red, With rivers running through her head, Her face was white, her eyes were black, She went inside and never came back.
WRITE YOUR OWN STORY They handed me a book one day, And told me what to think and say, The pages all were neatly planned, The ending written by their hand.
IT’S OKAY NOT TO BE OKAY I painted on my smile today, So no one knew I’d lost my way, I laughed at things I didn’t hear, And swallowed back another tear.
