"Should I Depart Early" Unofficial Poetry Challenge
Hi, all! For those who haven't seen my poems from last week - yes, I'm back on Vocal after a long-ish hiatus. And yes, this has happened before. What can I say, I ebb and flow like the tide. It's become a regular enough thing that I think at some point soon I'll stop mentioning it entirely! But for now, I can think of no better way to get reconnected with this lovely community than to send out another unofficial challenge, and see what inevitable brilliance you lot conjure up. So without further ado, I'd like to announce the start of my "Should I Depart Early" Unofficial Poetry Challenge!

Blessed Rain
The world is still and dark as the clock ticks silently past midnight. Doors barred against the relentless heat, the town sleeps, lulled by the constant drone of the instruments of alleviation. I lie awake, sensing the oscillations of the offset noise. A sudden flash of white-hot light breaches the blinds and illuminates the room. With a hypnotic flicker, it disappears, leaving only its memory, searing my retinas. A long moment passes, followed by the sharp roar of the splitting sky. Another moment, then the sound of the downpour in sheets on the window panes. Blessed moisture, sorely needed arrives at last, and all that lives rejoices. The reprieve will not last. The land is hot, and thirsty, but for now, I close my weary eyes as another lance of light pierces the darkness. Sleep comes before the thunder.

Solstice the Summer Fairy
Solstice, the summertime fairy wakes upon a golden crest her skin warm honey, eyes ablaze with embers that glow from the west 🏵️🏵️🏵️🏵️🏵️🏵️🏵️🏵️🏵️🏵️🏵️🏵️🏵️🏵️🏵️ She steps through valleys baked in light California poppies flood the steep her voice the surf on coastal rocks that rouses summer from its sleep 🏵️🏵️🏵️🏵️🏵️🏵️🏵️🏵️🏵️🏵️🏵️🏵️🏵️🏵️🏵️ She wears a dress of sun and sand and paints the hills with trees for shade her hands lift in the open skies so, summers glare won't quickly fade 🏵️🏵️🏵️🏵️🏵️🏵️🏵️🏵️🏵️🏵️🏵️🏵️🏵️🏵️🏵️ She spins across the coastal fog and burns away the morning chill her footprints leave a trail of heat that lingers on the quiet hill 🏵️🏵️🏵️🏵️🏵️🏵️🏵️🏵️🏵️🏵️🏵️🏵️🏵️🏵️🏵️ She shakes out stars from twilight skies and hangs the moon like a lemon slice she fills the long and hazy nights with ocean air and summer spice 🏵️🏵️🏵️🏵️🏵️🏵️🏵️🏵️🏵️🏵️🏵️🏵️🏵️🏵️🏵️ Though delicate spring blooms once stood now vibrant poppies crown the glade as Solstice weaves her endless light and drapes the world in lemonade
