I Kept the Porch Lights Burning
[Verse 1] I kept the porch light burning Though the fuse had blown again You were sleeping through December With your robe beside the bed So I took the long way past the quarry Where the old road gave way So you could wake up to coffee And one less thing to face [Pre-Chorus] I never called it courage I just knew what I could bear [Chorus] I went through the fire with my arms open wide I put the heat on me and kept it from your side When the world came hard at us, I stood in the door Took all the broken pieces, you left scattered on the floor Baby, you don't owe me a medal, you don't owe me a prayer I just promise when your final peace finds you, you won't face it alone there [Verse 2] I learned the sound of tires On wet gravel after rain I learned to read the doctor's silence Before he said your name I signed away all my Sundays For a room beneath the stairs Then I tucked the truth inside me And combed the knots from your hair. [Pre-Chorus] Some hearts are built for shelter Some are built to disappear [Chorus] I went through the fire with my arms open wide I put the heat on me and kept it from your side When the world came hard at us, I stood in the door Took all the broken pieces, you left scattered on the floor Baby, you don't owe me a medal, you don't owe me a prayer I just promise when your final peace finds you, you won't face it alone there [Bridge] And if I ever look tired If my voice cracks low Don't mistake the quiet For regret about the road I would choose you in the wreckage I would choose you in the rain Not because I wasn't frightened Because love outlasts the pain [Final Chorus] I went through the fire with my arms open wide I put the heat on me and kept it from your side When the world came hard at us, I stood in the door Took all the broken pieces, you left scattered on the floor Baby, you don't owe me a medal, you don't owe me a prayer I just promise when your final peace finds you, you won't face it alone there [Outro] I kept the porch light burning But i can turn it off tonight I went through hell before you So you could make it to the light

More Than You Bargained For
[Verse 1] You call, I smile, then I let it ring Not playing games, just protecting a tender thing I like the way your patience fills the room Like fresh sheets waiting in the afternoon You reach for my hand, I give you two A little more tomorrow, if it feels true No need to name every road tonight Let the quiet tell us when the time is right [Pre-Chorus] I’m not saying no I’m saying let it grow There’s a rhythm to my heart Don’t pull me past the start [Chorus] Baby, take it slow, don’t rush me We have time, let your love touch me gently If you hold me close, don’t hold too tight I want to stay, not disappear overnight Baby, take it slow, come trust me One more day can make this feel easy Leave a little room for me to breathe Move with my heart, and I’ll move with you naturally [Verse 2] You ask where this could go, I say somewhere good But good things need the time they should I’ve seen a spark turn into a flame Then burn the whole house down in someone’s name So bring your stories, I’ll bring mine We can trade the truth a page at a time I don’t need a promise carved in stone Just show me I’m safe when we’re alone [Pre-Chorus] I’m not saying no I’m saying let it grow There’s a rhythm to my heart Don’t pull me past the start [Chorus] Baby, take it slow, don’t rush me We have time, let your love touch me gently If you hold me close, don’t hold too tight I want to stay, not disappear overnight Baby, take it slow, come trust me One more day can make this feel easy Leave a little room for me to breathe Move with my heart, and I’ll move with you naturally [Bridge] If you’re here when the morning comes If you listen when I’m undone If you let me choose the pace I might give you every part of me someday No running, no racing, no need to prove The safest love knows when to move [Final Chorus] Baby, take it slow, don’t rush me We have time, let your love touch me gently If you hold me close, don’t hold too tight I want to stay, not disappear overnight Baby, take it slow, come trust me One more day can make this feel easy Leave a little room for me to breathe Move with my heart, and I’ll move with you naturally [Outro] Take it slow I’m still here Give me time And I’ll come near
