Cactus
We wear shoes on the beach; this is not a place for bare-feet and romance. We wear shoes right to the shoreline; where the desert meets the Great Southern Ocean and the skyline stretches to Antarctica. We build shade from batik sarongs, hot- pink towels, and tie-dyed mosquito nets; trees don’t grow on these desert plains. We hump one-hundred-and-eighty litres of water like feral camels voyaging over arid landscapes. We eat Peanut Butter on Corn-Thins and Nutella on tablespoons.

Letter to the Editor
To the Powers that be, Greetings! I hope this letter finds you well. I am bursting at the seems from all the stories I have to tell. A "free" writing platform I found one day somehow. I've been on it a little while, over 2 years now. Short stories, poems, interviews too. The subjects available to write for are quite the array. Every few days or so, a challenge emerges. Oh how interesting they always are, teaching me literary terms I'd never heard before. I have entered challenges, one after the other. I check anxiously, only to see that first place is always another, never this single mother. It is disheartening, if I am being honest and clear. Please, continue to hear me out dear. I am a black single mom, but I am not a statistic. I am not pulling the race card either, in case you missed it. I haven't seen a winner like me though. At least not yet. Is it me? Specifically?? Does my writing suck so much that even after entering challenges for years, I still lose? How do you choose? What specifications, unlisted, do I have to meet? I will continue to compete. Be a graceful loser. Better luck next time and all that. A nice pat on my back: "Go get 'em tiger!"I will. I know life isn't fair but I wanna make sure the scale isn't tipped. Again I will try...*coin flipped*

Shi Shi
Shi shi #and #and he used to say and I always repeated and thats the very beginning and the very of the end this time it's the new discovery of the old time in translation the phases are coming out of nowhere to speak where you gather your thoughts and the exclamation of euphoria is to be the drink so drink the liquids in words like a poison or a sweet comforting note to remind you that you are just getting closer in here getting sick and getting old to remind me about what ? And so what ? Why not ? I do like my grey hair it's the time for them to be more than just a brave in their age of no time and no real space I am in the center of the universe I am merging myself to disconnect from your tales I am cleaning the waves and I am the grounded chi state I change I shift according to them the environment consumes me so I take the fight time and disciplined me to reach the state where I can be me untouchable next to them feeling knowing observing but not playing their games running away whenever it's possible whenever I can in my territory in my life the real space of another in a poem in a physical space in the nature in the language beyond languages in the happy joyful state cuz why not I am beginning to get wrinkled and more oj more grey hair to be 40 is not a beginning of this life game is a fairytale in each moment in each state you are young younger old and tired again you are swimming in your mind and in the social life you are reminded that it's all normal that's the menopause state oh gosh I wish to be blind for what other write and say

From all the bad into your pure real loving way
I saw you sitting in there blue formal t-shirt and your beautiful moon face I should say what I felt was and still is your beautiful big open heart full of love not many can give it to another just like that I focused on what I felt and you took me for another loving phase
