Take Pleasure In America
Introduction This is for Lana V Lynx's "Raise a Glass to America" Challenge, which you can check out here. The music is a wonderful medley by Spirit of "Tampa Jam" "America The Beautiful", and "The Times They Are A-Changing". I love Randy California's (sadly missed) ethereal voice, though his father-in-law's (Ed Cassidy/Jack Bond) is a bit fierce on the first piece.

One More Hit
Yearning and cravings so bright they trip the light of my hovering steel wings flapping above dreams of one more hit in that sanctuary called No Return. I never asked for steady hands. I've held the ones that clawed and cried and dragged themselves through wastelands. It calls me by a different name at wrong turns, while the spurned hours of an old epoch forget the single seed buried beneath the slow, clotted bleed of using and drinking. Your name has not changed for what you've done. Not forever, just one hour, the whole unbroken sky for hating yourself self a little less. My trauma cinched these seat belts tight, a cul-de-sac of knowing where freedom devours its own shadow. And my small, defiant body. Or that tiny ass up in my face blocking the view of a pile of benzos. I'm not scrubbed-clean altars. I'm the the burnt-down house, still standing crooked but not in your way. But I take another, and another still, the porous pill so full of promise, a small white lie of overspreading pall. It swears my words can grow talons again, that my stories can sharpen into eagle eyes. I've seen you curled like a comma, unfinished, in rooms where the light gave up and left. So, I stop. There is no such thing as escape. For having created a god who learns to die, the likelihood of moving again in form, wicked or not, in a teacup of temptation, is so significant it hurts. Tomorrow you'll want to burn this poem, call it weakness, call it a lie. That's better than pretending the wolf's gone by.

Meeting Yourself in the Present Moment
Spiritual practice is not about meeting God, but about meeting yourself. Spiritual practice and life are one. The purpose of spiritual practice is to solve practical problems in life. Talking about spiritual practice apart from life is inevitably an escape from reality. When spiritual practice begins with practical problems, every problem becomes a training ground. As long as you focus on the present moment, cooking, washing dishes, and doing housework are also forms of spiritual practice.

I Miss the Molecular, Cellular Ions of the Ocean
I Miss the Molecular, Cellular Ions of the Ocean I miss the molecular, Cellular ions of the ocean. I miss living by the water where my hair stays soft instead of dry and kinky, Where the sand slid between my toes And the ocean spray kissed my skin As I waded out to my waist‑deep adventure. I miss the sunlight, the waves, The way the sand held my body’s heat and the salt water Pulled inflammation from my bones. The ocean wasn’t a vacation. It was medicine, the kind that works on the nervous system, The kind that remembers you. The sand embodied my molecules as I walked the shoreline, Each step is a conversation between earth and skin. Now I live in a desert of possibilities, Grateful to be alive, But aware of the difference aware of How my body once breathed in rhythm with the tide. And still, the ocean lives in me. Cellular. Molecular. All the molecular ions of the ocean depth, Breathing life into cellular, molecules of me, Of Human life. I remember with every breath.
