All I ever wanted was your sweet nothings

Nothing sweeter, would have been enough

The subtle way you snuck into my being

A wiser woman, would have called your bluff

*

The web of lies you dress up, smell like flowers

The fragrance lingers, long after you go

The time drags by - the minutes feel like hours

You broke me, and I thought that you should know

*

Excuses feel like smiles at a funeral

No place for humor, here among the dead

Admitting your misdeeds makes you feel vulnerable

The laughter comes from deep inside your head

*

The funny thing is, I no longer need you

Harder words I'm sure you've never heard

So, make the lies fit however you need to

Your presence here, permanently deferred

*

I'll come to crave the sweetness of another

myself in mind, much choosier this time

The best in me, somebody will discover

Settling for less, would be a crime

surreal poetry
