Sun and Moon

Locked into love

A long time ago the sun came to be

Sitting in the center of much debris

Slowly the debris formed into many things

Though most of it was now just large debris

~

Slowly the earth formed from a hunk of molten rock

Bombarded by meteors often enough

Till one day another large hunk of molten rock

Slammed into the earth and tore it apart

~

From this a chunk broke off

Began floating away

But then it fell into an orbit

So it decided to stay

~

This chunk became Earth's moon

That always had one half facing away

But the half that looked out gazed upon the sun

In all it's bright glory burning things up

~

Upon the first full moon for earth

Did the sun see the moon

Right then and there a romance began to bloom

Every full moon they would see each other again

~

Then have to wait for the next full spin

But always they waited to gaze at each other again

The sun and moon locked forever

Finding love always at the full moon again

~

But alas they only ever saw each other at angles

Always a profile only able to see but one eye

They both lamented this great sadness

But still loved each other all the same

~

Till a day came where the moon moved fully in front

In full gaze of all the sun’s glory

A surprise but a welcome one nonetheless

In this moment the cosmos stopped

~

For eight minutes they gazed at one another in full view

Both eyes able to see the other

Eight minutes is nothing in the grand scheme of time

But for them it was a moment that lasted forever

~

The moon basked in the sun’s warmth

The sun gazed upon her in all her glory

Only eight minutes

But their love was truly cemented that first eclipse

~

Now they no longer lamented their half glances

For they knew eventually the cosmos would bring them back

To those glorious eight minutes again

Where they could see each other fully once again

~
