Summer Flavor

feels like nostalgia

You never know what sunshine tastes like

Till it slaps your tastebuds

A mixture of citrus, berries

And sadness

Nonetheless

The citrus is powerful

A strong punch to your upper jaw

Almost the way sunny-D made you pucker as a kid

Berries a close second

The way sweets would linger on your tongue at night

You almost didn’t want the after taste to hit

But sadness-

Ever present

It sneaks up on you when you gulp down sunlight

It was that taste in your mouth, the feeling in your gut

When at the end of summer

You don't want the days to end

The taste of citrus & berries to run away

You want them back
