Stuck On Memory Lane

Poem about dementia and memory loss.

I've got this feeling there's something I've forgot,

like somebodies birthday or the oven getting hot.

I hope it comes back to me this thing that has gone,

like somebodies name on the tip of my tongue.

Did I leave the lights on?

Or forget to pay a bill?

And did I turn the taps off so the bath doesn't overfill.

I hope it's not important this thing that has gone,

please let it be silly like the words to a song.

It's starting to annoy me in fact it's becoming a pain.

Not only am I lost now I can't remember my own name.

I hope I can recall the number of your phone.

At least then you can remind me

"How do I get home?"
