strong enough

smart enough

a crucible of enlightenment

in low places

not all my friends stay

i am living on the high road

and my house stands on a pedestal

but a soapbox doesn't make a home

not everybody knows

but i do

strong enough to be foolish

smart enough to love

both of these things can be true

he looks different when he gets close

in a love that demands my best

because i do love a challenge

physically spent and emotionally resilient

it means i really am living my best

all i wanted was to be normal

when i was a child

a life and mind of ease

a mask i forced to fit

my face

my body

my desolate canvas

covered with other people's paint

my values, tones, and gradient hues

hidden from the world

until i learned

there is no wrong color

so come with me

and put your worst foot forward
