has come to be measured

by how much shit you can withstand.

that isn’t strength, that’s abuse

convinced it takes more courage

to suffer quietly?

there is dignity and truth in that feeling

of course.

it takes courage to speak

to leave your presence

to be vulnerable

where does it come from?

courage, will, creativity, questions?

it comes from us, from within.

it is selective.

can’t be forced

can be practiced

strength is needed for healing

strength is needed to accept

though we might not be healed

strength is knowing it is enough

to be healing

daily weekly monthly yearly

healing

hard to see, harder to catch

no choice; we’ll all have to do it

eventually

this life or maybe the next

we can let go of our bitterness
