Strangers at First
"This couldn't be better!"
In a bar full of strangers
I weave my way through
the crowd on the dance floor
towards the rooftop view.
I pause for a tad
and take in the sights
palms rustle in the breeze
desert air fills the night.
Outside of this moment
the world ceases to exist
the warmth of my skin
salt teasing my lips.
The thought crosses my mind
"This couldn't be better!"
I'm free from the race
a vagabond jet-setter.
Just yesterday
in my cubicle I sat
pouring over spreadsheets
this, on top of that.
Stifled by routine
and starving for magic
I clicked a few buttons
and packed all my bags up.
Within a few hours
I teleported away
to this salty sweet rooftop
at a bar near the bay.
My worries behind me
I took in the scene
alluring faces
soaked in light tangerine.
"This couldn't be better!"
I think once again
Then. There you stood.
Across the bar with that grin.
Your blue eyes twinkled
as they locked onto mine
a quiver through my body
ran deep down my spine.
I knew in that instant
I'd forever be changed
the best things, they say
cannot be explained.
My heart swiftly opened
bud unfurling into bloom
the course of life altered
by a glance across the room.
