Father, who loved to keep things neat,
Came home from work and decided it was time for a treat.
"Right then," he said, "A spring cleaning we must do,
Everyone must help, it's the thing to pursue."
Mother, who loved a bit of mess,
Groaned and replied, "Oh, I must confess,
The children have just settled down to play,
Do they really have to help today?"
But the children, who loved a good drama,
Saw their chance and decided to play like mama.
They knocked things over, scattered cushions about,
Left muddy footprints and made a great shout.
Father grew furious and Mother grew tired,
The living room now looked like it had been mired.
Just as Father was about to lose his cool,
There came a knock, "knock knock", at the door's rule.
It was Uncle George, who had come to visit,
He walked in and the scene he couldn't miss it.
"My word!" he exclaimed with a twinkle in his eye,
"What's going on here? It's quite the spy!"
Father stammered, "It's this spring cleaning, you see,
I can't get the kids to help, it's quite eerie"
Uncle George smiled and patted Father's shoulder,
"Now, now, my boy, let's not grow bolder,
Why don't we put down our brooms and mops,
Sit down and have a nice cup of tea, and trade some jokes."
Mother smiled, the children giggled and grin,
And Father finally saw the silly sin,
"Well, why didn't you say so earlier, Uncle George!
Tea it is!" and he let out a hearty gorge.
And so, the family sat down together,
Forgot all the cleaning, in their love they'd rather,
They laughed and joked, and enjoyed the tea,
And they all lived happily, as you can see.
