Sonnet 2
Poems from The Blue House, May 2018
Sonnet 2
I am writing because I want you to know me,
because I never knew me before.
Let’s sleep at the corner of Street Soft-Sonnet,
the blues are whisp’rin behind your door.
I want to smile coming home from long days at work,
bus turning down Washington Parade.
I used to laugh on the phone, can’t cry anymore,
head knockin’ ‘gainst the window, it’s keeping me awake.
But there’s a coffee jar of bluebells growing,
that mean something different to me now.
There’s ladybirds in the garden,
my head’s no longer in the clouds.
Got no-one around to make me feel like a burden,
and I’m cutting down straws to fit small mugs of bourbon.
